Nigerians are too busy governing themselves

Whenever the phrase ''Nigerians are too lazy to start a revolution'' comes up, i tend to rise my eyebrow wondering how, where, when, who is going to start the revolution when the people called Nigerians are to busy struggling to govern themselves.

The professionals, i mean people that are employed to work in an office wake up 5am, depending on which part of Lagos such individual lives, say someone coming from Ikorodu or Sango area of Ogun State where they wake up by 4am to start their day. Traffic is a factor if you live in Lagos, it takes two to four hours to get to any office destination in Eko and it takes another two to four or more hour to get to various homes while coming back from the office or work. So automatically an average office personnel in Eko travels 8 hour each day of the week so they could put food on the table with their under-priced expertise. How do you expect someone who spends 8 hour in traffic everyday to start a revolution against the overzealous corrupt political office holders? An individual whose life have been wasted on the road and manages to be productive at work.

Borrow me your mind for a moment, let me take you inside Lagos traffic say from Iyana Ipaja road down to Oshodi in the morning. There you will find different category of people, from the street hawker to the beggar who go about looking for their daily bread. I have seen under age children up as early as 6am hawking from am to pm, young, able body men selling sachet water, popularly known as pure water or the older boys selling FAN MILK yogurt all day, the ones that sell fried chips that the total package is valued at 3000 naira, less than 20 dollars.

All Nigerians, not excluding the electricity utility company, provides power for themselves after paying tax to the government. If you're a Nigerian or you live in Nigeria, you're expected to provide electricity, water, security for yourself because if you don't do it, who will? a country that is the 12th producer of crude oil in the world, is not lack of availability that we couldn't produce more, is lack of refinery security and systemic failure. How do you expect people who have been loyal not to revolt against the government that they pay tax and could not deliver on their own part by providing basic amenities to their citizens? Electricity generation in Nigeria started in 1896 but the utility company, the Nigerian Electricity Supply Company was established in 1929, do the math and it will shock you why we are still here.

In 1978, under Olusegun Obasanjo fuel price was 15.37k, read again i did not say naira i said Kobo. It jump  300% in increment under Ibrahim Babanigda, 60k, three years after same government increased it to 5.00 Naira. Fast forward to 2000 twenty years after his first rule as military head of state, Obj increased the pump price to N20.00 by 2007 when he was to hand over to Alh Umaru YarAdua, he had increased it to N70.00 but YarAdua reversed it to N65.00 when he came on board.
In 2012 president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, in his presidential philosophical calculation increased it by 117% , N141.00. Labour went on strike, Lagosian gathered at Gani Fawemi park in Ojota for two weeks protesting the hardship placed upon them by GEJ, so he was compelled to reverse it to N97, he accepted but with a clause that it was going to be temporary.

Nigerian government doesn't care about you or your family, dead or alive all they care about is the sharing formula. According to 25th September 2014, of Premium Times newspaper, Nigeria realises N2.432 trillion oil revenue between Janaury, April alone, yet she could not pay her unemployed any benefits.
New York state Assistance (FA) provides assistance to needy families include a minor child living with a parent (including families where both parents are in the household) or a caretaker relative.
Under FA, eligible adult are limited to receiving benefits for a total of 60 months in their lifetime. what do we get for being a Nigerian, shame, political killing, lynch, embarrassment in the hands of security agents home and abroad, how can we have so much yet suffer much more.

As at the last count, GEJ government provided jobs for about 33 ministers who have various personal assistants that are been paid from governments purse, many special advisers, too many to mention foreign ambassador representing Nigeria, the government of the day provided jobs for the big boys.
A nation that want development will rather create jobs for the less privileged, young and vibrant men and women not those who are big and made.

We are yet to figure out where the over 40 billion dollars that Sanusi alleged to have been un-remitted by NNPC or the bullet proof BMW car that was purchased by the then Aviation minister Stella Oduah at Inflated price. The latest is the $9.3 million seized in South Africa that was brought in by Oritsejafor private jet which the Federal government claims is for the purchase of military arms.
Please where is it done in a civilized nation that a government carries cash around in private jet when they can wire the money via bank or where is it ever heard that a civilian pilot and passenger travel to purchase arms for military.

Nigerian government needs to sit tight before Nigerian citizens get tired of governing themselves. They will certainly kick and revolt against the government once they are fed up of providing everything for themselves. Nigerians are too busy governing themselves so much so that it has blind their sight to the short coming of the corrupt politicians.
