Is entertainment now over education?

Entertainment industry in Nigeria some years back wasn't prolific and enormously successful as it is now. Fela Anikulapo Kuti was the biggest export in Nigeria music industry with no disrespect to King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and the rest. Nollywood, a name fashion after the American version of Hollywood was birth with modest scores of movies that attracted the eagle eyes of CNN to it.
Continue below.

The biggest export industry after Oil is the entertainment industry in Nigeria, its the only industry that has been active and turning in revenue for the nation legitimately. The pioneer of the contemporary entertainment industry did not start off with the mind set of making millions out of it, even if they had wanted to make a lot of money from it, that won't have been possible because attention and recognition  wasn't given to them. Success doesn't come cheap, different hustle, struggle was applied as a means to get to the mountain top that is full of milk and honey that the artiste now enjoy.

Some years back Eedris Abdulkareem was the man about town, without him at a big event the event is not complete. He fought a battle in the music industry even though it was a personal battle yet it opened the door of big check to the new artiste.  His name was dropped from the A-list Nigerian artiste because of the messy fight with American rapper 50cent, even though Eedris said he has no regret, according to him, ''i am the reason everybody is getting paid today. I am the reason everybody is doing great videos. If i didn't fight then, everybody would have been treated like dirt.''

Education in Nigeria has no value compare to entertainment industry considering the fact that Nigeria organization value education in all capacity. Most people with quality education are not doing any better than the people with little or less education in entertainment industry, for the records, some of this entertainers can afford to employ a university professor and place him / her on a monthly remuneration.
Cowbell Mathematics competition winner is given 100,000 (one hundred thousand naira only), Lagos State Spelling Bee competition is 50,000 (fifty thousand naira only), school Scrabble competition is 25,000 (twenty five thousand naira only), Cool-FM Speelling game is a goodie bag filled with Amila drink.
Meanwhile the entertainment competition data goes thus, MTN Project Fame is 5,000.000(five million naira only), Etisalat Nigerian Idol is 7,000,000. (Seven million naira only), Glo naija sings is 5,000,000 (five million naira only) Gulder Ultimate Search is 10,000,000 (ten million naira only) . Apparently priority has changed drastically from the preferred to the preferable, education is now dropped to the back bench after entertainment, which is the main reason for the mass failure in the last WAEC examination in Nigeria. We need to set our priority right, go back to the source and look inward so we could reverse the wrong before it become a cultural doctrine.
